Baccarat Variations

Variations of Baccarat

There are three accepted variants of baccarat:

Baccarat Chemin De Fer
This is the French version, which means railroad in English. Players are seated around the table. It makes used of six full packs of cards of the same pattern and are shuffled together.

The name actually comes from the custom of players passing the role of banker from one to the other. The goal is similar to the American variety but it has more flexible rules. The highest score is 9. The lowest score is 0 (baccarat). Ace is worth 1, the face cards are worth 10, and the other cards retain their nominal value. One adds up the scores and deducts 10 or the multiples of 10 in order to get results. The “shoe”? which goes around the table is kept by the banker. The player may choose to take a card or to stand and if he lays down his hand at 8 or 9, then the game ends.

Baccarat Banque
Bacarrat Banque is yet another variation of the pure game of Baccarat. As its name – “deux tableaux” implies, baccarat is played on two tables. In this variant, there are three packs of cards that are shuffled together. There are also two players, where the dealer deals two hands and two cards for the banker. And players can make bets on two hands by placing their bets on the middle of the joined tables. Rules are very similar to those of other baccarat games.

Punto Banco
It is the variety closest to the American version. They are almost the same but there is a difference in the table design. In Punto Banco, there are no optional plays and all cards are dealt according to a fixed set of rules. In a match- up between two hands- Punto and Banco, players must always bet on the winner. And the cards are dealt to both hands by the dealer according to a set of rules. The player who has the hand closest to a total of nine is said to be the winner.
