How Baccarat Started

September 24th, 2008

Baccarat is a one of the most popular card games of all time, and it is played in practically every casino all over the world, whether online casinos or offline. Like many other card games, how Baccarat started is a bit uncertain. It is commonly thought that the card games was introduced into France from Italy during the reign of Charles VIII. This means that it was probably first played in France sometime between 1483 and 1498.

Baccarat actually shares a lot of similarities with two other card games called Faro and Basset. There are also a few variations on the game: baccarat banque or à deux tableaux, punto banco and baccarat chemin de fer or railway. Punto banco has also been referred to as North American baccarat.
Punto banco is a little bit different than the other variations in the sense that it is mostly a game of chance, unlike the other games wherein the player’s actions actually affect the game’s outcome. The cards that are dealt to the player have a direct bearing on the player’s subsequent actions.

Baccarat is actually quite simple to play, with only three possible outcomes to every casino game, which is perhaps part of the reason why it is so popular.

Baccarat Strategy

Baccarat strategy may seem quite complicated, but it is in fact a fairly simple game. However, understanding the rules of the casino game is crucial for baccarat mastery. And unlike other card games, there are relatively few systems that have been developed specifically for Baccarat. The few systems that are around are not guaranteed to work all of the time.

The main reason why these systems are not that effective is that the game has no specific pattern that would help you achieve a victory even if you manage to count the cards successfully. While counting cards is not totally useless, it is simply not worth the time and effort. Furthermore, the deck is typically shuffled after each hand in most modern casinos.

The most popular method used to beat baccarat involves doubling your bet after losing a hand. For example: if you lose a 5-dollar bet, your next bet would be 10 dollars. If you lose that one as well, the third bet is for 20 dollars. If you win the third bet, you win 20 dollars and keep your bet, so you have a total of 40 dollars! This system generally works all the time, barring the table maximum of course.
